THROUGHOUT this year the customers and staff at Alex Dalgetty & Sons, Bank Street, Galashiels have been donating their change to help Galashiels Town Band.

In recognition of their efforts, members of the band popped by the shop on Saturday to play some Christmas Carols and present a certificate.

Iain Wilson, the band’s Treasurer, said: “The customers in Dalgetty’s have raised over £330 for us so far this year, as well as supporting other good causes. We can’t thank the staff in the shop enough for helping us achieve this.” December is a busy month for the band. As well as playing at the traditional Christmas Eve ceremony at the tree in Bank Street and other events, the band has a concert coming up on Saturday, December 6 in Our Lady and St Andrew’s Church at 7.30pm.

The concert will include traditional Christmas music and audience participation and will feature performances by the Gala Youth Band and Junior Bands fresh from their recent Silver awards at the National Youth Championships. Tickets for the concert cost £5 (free for 18 and under) and will be on sale at the door or in advance from band members or from A&A Doyle in Bank Street.
