THEY boast one of the best views in the Borders.

But the Rose Court flats in Galashiels are to be demolished within the next three months, community councillors heard this week.

And, despite thousands of people on the waiting list for a new home in the Borders, the Scottish Borders Housing Association properties are “not going to be replaced immediately”.

Community councillor Judith Cleghorn made the announcement to Galashiels Community Council after it was discussed at Langlee Residents Association.

She also confirmed that Langlee Post Office was staying open in Lower Langlee following a public consultation.

It had been feared moving it to the Spar at Upper Langlee would result in the closure of the newsagent in Marmion Road, which has a new neighbour in the Langlee Pharmacy.

And, despite fears it would attract anti-social behaviour, Ms Cleghorn, who originally campaigned against it, added: “It doesn’t seem to be any problem whatsoever.”
