A GROUP which is looking to revitalise the shopping centre in Galashiels has announced details of a public drop-in session.

Energise Galashiels will host the event at Old Gala House on Wednesday, March 11, from 4pm to 6pm. It will be followed by a workshop from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

It is looking to develop ideas which could capitalise on the return of the railway to the region later this year.

Sue Smith, a spokesperson for Energise Galashiels's Events sub-group, said: "Neen Kelly of Bluebell Scotland and myself are working with the newly established Events Sub-Group of Energise Galashiels and Scottish Borders Council to develop a Future Events Strategy for Galashiels. "We are developing ideas for new and sustainable events that will maximise the opportunities that the railway and the new town centre developments can bring to revitalise Galashiels, encourage increased footfall and increased spend in the town.

"As part of this work we would like to involve as many people and groups in Galashiels as possible, and therefore we would like to invite you to a community drop-in session in the Pringle Room at Old Gala House on Wednesday 11th March. "Neen and I will both be there from 4pm – 6pm and would be very happy to talk through the work we have undertaken to date and how we will progress the project. "In addition, we would like to give the community the opportunity to input into the ideas, plans and proposals and there will be opportunities to do this at the drop-in session."
