A GALASHIELS couple who stole a trolley load of shopping from a local supermarket have been ordered to pay up a total of £620.

Linda Geraghty, 36, of Balmoral Avenue, brazenly got a child to stand and keep the doors open of the Aldi store on March 26 and walked out with the shopping and without an alarm going off.

But Selkirk Sheriff Court was told her antics had been witnessed by staff and a shop manager confronted Geraghty for a receipt in the car park.

As the mother-of-three pretended to look for the receipt, her partner Dale Forrest, 46, continued to unload the shopping from the trolley into the car.

Prosecutor Tessa Bradley said the couple then jumped into the car and drove off. She added: “The manager tried to stand in front of the vehicle but had to move aside as the car was not going to stop.” Geraghty also pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of £100 worth of amphetamines at a house in Kelso dating back to October 2010.

Sheriff Donald Ferguson fined the pair £270 each and told them to pay a total of £100 to Aldi.
