A 26-YEAR-OLD man is due to appear before Selkirk Sheriff Court today (Thurs) in connection with a break-in and theft at a Post Office in Galashiels earlier this week.

The incident happened at around 12:30am on Tuesday (July 7) when a male suspect was seen at the premises on Marmion Road.

Members of the public quickly raised the alarm with the police who successfully traced a man as part of their enquiries later the following day.

Local Community Inspector for Police Scotland, Inspector Tony Hodges said: “Officers were able to quickly identify the suspect for this offence thanks to the excellent descriptions provided by the members of the public.

“We are very much reliant on good information from the public when dealing with reports of crimes and this incident demonstrates the vigilance of local people and how it ensures that those committing crime in our communities are brought to the courts quickly.”
