WHEN Fiona Mallett, from Galashiels, heard about the good work the Little Princess Trust does for children suffering from cancer, she felt compelled to help in any way she could.

Last week, she had nine inches of her own hair cut off, and -as well as donating that- she will be fundraising for the group.

“The charity donates the wigs to the children free of charge, but they also buy wigs to have in case a child needs a different one,” explained Fiona.

“I am hoping to raise £350, because that’s how much it costs for one wig. So far I have raised £200.

“I was very nervous as it had taken me ages to grow my hair so long, but I’m also excited as it will hopefully make a huge difference to someone. Thanks to Jools Grieveve at Anber Hair Design for making it so easy on the day and everyone who has donated so far.” The Little Princess Trust was launched in 2006 by the parents of Hannah Tarplee, who was diagnosed with having a Wilms tumour and after a brave battle, died in 2005. She had worn a wig during her treatment.

The charity has helped thousands of children across the UK. They work with suppliers throughout the UK and Ireland, all of whom supply real hair wigs. Donations can be made to Fiona’s justgiving page via https://www.justgiving.com/Fiona-Mallett
