A DRUNKEN man who assaulted his partner has been ordered to be of good behaviour for the next six months.

William Morrison, 67, admitted assaulting his partner at Gala Park Gardens, Galashiels, on December 28.

Prosecutor Tessa Bradley told a previous hearing at Selkirk Sheriff Court how the woman contacted police during the early hours of the morning.

She added: “The line remained open and a male and female could be heard arguing. She said that she was going to wake up with a black eye, and the male was apologising.” The call was traced to Gala Park Gardens and police found the house in darkness, and could get no answer at the door. Officers went into the stairwell and Morrison answered the door.

Ms Bradley went on: “He was clearly under the influence of alcohol and slurring his words. The woman was clearly distressed and upset. She had bruising to her face and said that he had punched her.”.

Sentence was deferred until January 18.
