JUDGES from the Beautiful Scotland in Bloom and the Floral Gateway competitions were in town recently, to see hard work and dedication of local volunteers for themselves.

The judges were treated to a vivid floral display of colour and panache, and hopes are high that Galashiels will go far in the year’s competition.

The team of highly experienced judges travelled the length and breadth of the country from July 27 to August 9, to discover which communities have been most successful in improving the attractiveness, cleanliness and sustainability of their town or village.

During the judging tours three themes are examined; horticultural achievement, community participation and environmental responsibility.

Winning communities will be presented with their awards at a ceremony in September.

The overall winner receives the sought after Rosebowl Trophy, while Discretionary Awards for outstanding performance in areas such as biodiversity, tourism, and community involvement are also on offer.

A selection of the winning communities will be nominated for entry into the 2016 RHS Britain in Bloom final.
