VOLUNTEER staff members from supermarket giant Tesco have been working with Gala in Bloom to tidy up a piece of ground in the town.

The area, just off Market Street at the entrance to Tesco’s staff car park, had been left to grow wild for several years until recently.

This spring, litter was removed and now the whole area has been cleared ready to be made into a community garden.

Trees have been pruned to let more light into the area. Planters will be placed in the area and it is planned that the ground will be covered with a layer of bark. The garden will have seating and be open for anyone to rest in as they walk around the town.

Tesco Community Champion Lorraine Gooden said: "We are delighted to be working with Gala in Bloom to improve this area which has been an eyesore in the town centre. I am really grateful for all the help I have had from colleagues and Gala in Bloom volunteers."
