POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was killed in Hawick last night.

An 82-year-old man was hit by a Skoda Fabia as it turned onto Rosevale Street from Mansfield Crescent at around 9.30pm.

The man was taken by ambulance to Borders General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Enquiries are ongoing and local road policing officers are today appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Neil Inglis of the Road Policing Unit told the Border Telegraph: “We are currently investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Hawick last night.

“Unfortunately, an 82-year-old man died as result of the injuries he sustained in this incident and our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.

“We have spoken with the driver of the vehicle as part of our inquiry and are today asking anyone who witnessed this collision to come forward.”
