POLICE have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with a vicious assault on Thursday night in Hawick.
At around 11pm a man in his 30s sustained a number of head and facial injuries following the altercation in the Millport area.
He was transferred to Borders General Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
Local officers traced a man as part of their inquiries and he has now been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
Detective Sergeant James Welsh of Dalkeith CID said: "Attacks of this nature are completely unacceptable and I hope it goes without saying that Police Scotland has a zero tolerance approach towards anyone involved in this sort of criminal activity.
"We will always act on information passed to us and anyone who wishes to report a crime in their community should call police on 101."
