A 33-YEAR-OLD man has appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody in connection with a theft in Hawick.
An 85-year-old woman was allegedly robbed of a three-figure-sum in the Langlands Court area of Hawick at around noon on Thursday, June 12.
She was taken to Borders General Hospital after falling over and suffering a suspected broken hip.
Following extensive investigation work from officers from the Scottish Borders, a man was traced and arrested and charged.
Chief Inspector Andy Clark said: "Thanks to the diligent actions of local officers, we were able to quickly identiy a suspect in this case and put them to court this morning.
“The theft was obviously a terrifying experience for the elderly woman involved and Police Scotland will work tirelessly to identify the culprits in such cases.” Anyone with information on any criminal activity can contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
