A LONG-SERVING sheriff jailed a woman for 30 days for contempt of court in the last ever case he dealt with.
Louise Boughen, 34, turned up drunk for her appearance at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on Friday and was remanded in custody over the weekend by Sheriff Derrick McIntyre.
She had been breathalysed in the cells with a reading returned of 156 microgrammes - four and a half times the legal alcohol limit for driving.
Sheriff McIntyre returned to the bench at Selkirk Sheriff Court on his 70th birthday on Monday to pass sentence before officially retiring. The former army major told Boughen, of Roxburghe Drive, Hawick: “You were almost five times the drink drive limit. Clearly that was contemptuous.” Boughen had initially appeared to answer a charge of failing to apply with a community payback order. The jail sentence was back-dated to Friday when Boughen was taken into custody.
