A STUDENT from Hawick has received a top academic excellence award in biology at Queen Margaret University’s (QMU) recent graduation ceremony held at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh.

David Shuttleworth, aged 22, was presented with the prestigious Society of Biology Award for achieving the highest overall mark in the field of human biology and applied pharmacology.

This award demonstrates the health sector’s continued commitment to recognising talent and hard work.

David graduated from QMU earlier this month with a first class BSc (hons) degree in Human Biology. He now plans to go into laboratory or public health work as he continues with his goal to better the lives of others.

Commenting on his award from QMU, David said: “I’m really proud to have been recognised for my academic achievements. I received excellent support and guidance from my lecturing team and fellow colleagues during my time at QMU.

“I think QMU is a place for everyone. No matter where you come from or your background, you can achieve if you want to.”
