A SPECIAL screening of 1973's film of the year "The Sting" will take place at The Heart of Hawick on Friday, February 6.

Tickets priced £8 (includes a glass of wine) are available from the Heart of Hawick (01450 360680) and also the Scottish Borders Link of Chernobyl Children Lifeline which is the charity benefiting from the event.

The local link was set up in 2001 and it has hosted 108 children and has raised over £50,000 to support the nine summer visits which it has organised since then.

The children come for a month’s visit to enjoy the benefits of healthy living away from the radioactive climate that they live in and to improve their health – medical opinion says that this month’s break add two years to their lives.

The Chernobyl charity has been supported by host families throughout the Borders, from Peebles, Stow, Galashiels, Gattonside, Duns, Lethem, Jedburgh, Eyemouth, Seahouses and other towns.

Being a voluntary organisation, members always come and go, and new members are always welcome. Anyone interested in helping or getting more information should contact Fraser Simm, Chairman (01578-730297).

The film night starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman starts at 6.45pm for 7pm.
