WORK is to begin next week on a new community recycling centre for Kelso.
The new £1.18million integrated facility at Pinnaclehill Industrial Estate is being built by Scottish Borders Council’s contractor SBc Contracts and is expected to be completed in spring 2015.
It will include the adaptation of an adjacent industrial unit to form a new Neighbourhood Operations depot for the Kelso area.
The project will see the construction of a modern recycling centre which has been designed to make it easier for waste materials to be deposited into on-site skips.
It will have the capacity to accept a wide variety of waste types, from garden waste to electrical equipment, similar to the Council’s six other community recycling centres.
SBC’s Executive Member for Environmental Services, Councillor David Paterson, said: “It is vital as many households as possible are provided with access to community recycling centres, so it is good news to hear work on the new facility in Kelso it is set to begin.
“The three Kelso Councillors made it clear the town required a community recycling centre and I thank them for their efforts. The introduction of the facility will encourage residents and businesses to recycle as much as possible to support our environment.”
