A TRIO of Lady Bussers and a visiting motor cycling enthusiast helped launch a Kelso church’s big fundraising event on Saturday.

Leigh Anderson, Emily Scott and Mia Wright had the privilege of cutting the ribbon to open the Grand Sale at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church and then excitedly climbed aboard a £47,000 Honda Goldwing trike belonging to Robert Carter.

Robert, from Aberdare, was one of hundreds of Goldwing owners who had travelled from as far away as Germany and Holland to attend a weekend rally at Springwood Park.

Several of the motorcycle enthusiasts joined parishioners and townsfolk to help raise over £7,000 at the day-long sale of books, bric-a-brac, hand knits, home-baking and garden plants and produce.

Parishioners also gave their talents to raise money with transportation to and from Edinburgh Airport, a day out with the Rector and his wife in their campervan, a trip in a vintage Bentley, dinner for eight and 25 places at a Christmas wine tasting evening still being among the items on offer. To make a bid contact Grace Redpath on 01573 450752.

Rector, the Rev Bob King, told Sunday’s congregation that the sale had not only been a great success financially but also in bringing the community into the church and sharing with them a day to remember.
