ON Sunday 22nd February, local MP Michael Moore attended a tea party in Eccles which was run by the Kelso Contact the Elderly Group.
Contact the Elderly is the only UK wide organisation whose total aim is to tackle loneliness and isolation amongst elderly people in our communities. They run a series of tea parties in the homes of volunteer hosts.
Michael Moore said: βIt was great to be invited to this event and to see first hand the important work that Contact the Elderly are doing.
With an aging population, isolation and loneliness has the potential to become a real issue in our communities. It is great that groups like Contact the Elderly are taking proactive steps to prevent this.
I really enjoyed the afternoon, not least of all the wonderful spread of tea and cakes! I trust that the work of the group will go from strength to strength.β
