LAUDER Christmas Lights Switch on proved to be a great success this year with around four to five hundred people supporting the event.

Entertainment was provided by Fahrenheit Disco, also Oli and Gus, circus entertainers.

A lively fireworks display set the scene for the torchlight procession, led by Santa with two of his Elves, Piped by Arch Anderson and two of his young Piping colleagues, from the Lauderdale to the Town Hall. On reaching the Town Hall, Santa distributed his gifts and the Ladies of the W.R.I. provided mince pies and mulled wine for all.

Little children enjoyed their rides on Slaters “Tea Cups”, and sweet talked parents into buying glowing wands.

The evening reached its climax with a presentation of prizes by Santa to the winners of Lauder Primary School “Christmas Card” competition.

Finally a lovely Christmas Prayer by the Rev. Rae Clark and a farewell rendition from the Pipers.

Declaring the night an overwhelming success, spokesperson Margot Douglas told the Border Telegraph: “Grateful thanks must go to the folks of Lauder for their continuing support, and to all those who work behind the scenes to make this event possible.”
