A CHILD cancer victim’s plight has inspired a Lauder girl to donate her locks to the Little Princess Trust.

Six-year-old Jade Gourdie hopes when her hair is shaved off on February 28 it will be made into a wig to help other children who lose theirs due to chemotherapy or other conditions associated with cancer.

And already a Just Giving site set up by the Lauder Primary P2 pupil’s mum, Eilidh, has raised more than £260 towards a target of £350 which is the cost of making a wig with donated hair.

Eilidh said: “The sister of one of Jade’s friends passed away after suffering from cancer and this has been close to her heart although she never met the girl.

“Jade has got the idea in her head and it has really stuck - she’s never thought of anything like this before.” At first the plan was to have her hair cut off at a local salon but in the last week it has evolved.

And most of the town are getting involved.

Eilidh added: “One of our neighbour’s daughters Olivia Gibb aged eight, who is in P4 at Lauder Primary, heard about what we were doing and has already donated at least 11 inches of hair to the cause.

“Lauder Primary will be getting involved and letting the children and teachers wear a crazy hairstyle or a wacky hat the same week Jade gets her hair cut for a donation towards Little Princess Trust.

“In the past week it has snowballed and now we have booked Lauder Public Hall from 12.30 to 2.30pm on February 28 for a ceremonious cutting, there will also be a bouncy castle, face painting and some stalls to raise extra funds for the Little Princess Trust.” Jade’s Just Giving site is at: https://www.justgiving.com/jade-marley
