CHRISTMAS came early for residents in Melrose at the weekend.
Carol singers, young and old alike, braved blustery weather to perform around the Christmas tree in the town’s Square on Saturday night.
They were accompanied by Melrose Pipes and Drums and St Boswells Concert Band.
The event, which was compered by Martin Neilson, is staged by the town’s community council.
Vice-chairwoman Val Miller said: “It was great, in spite of the elements. And, considering the weather, it was an amazing turnout.
“All day we were worried about the weather but we were on the phone to both the bands who said they had played in worse conditions.” And she added: “There were hot drinks and mince pies afterwards and it was a super occasion.”
