PLANS to turn a former youth hostel in Melrose into a private home have been submitted with Scottish Borders Council.
Neil Sinclair-Parry from East Lothian wants to convert the 22-bedroom property into a residential property.
The Scottish Youth Hostel Association announced three years ago that it was closing the Melrose facility due to a drop in visitor numbers.
Despite local campaigns, including the formation of Friends of Melrose Youth Hostel, the building along with its two acres of land was put on the open market at offers over £620,000.
As well as 22 bedrooms the former hostel also has six bathrooms and five reception rooms.
The change of use application is part of the condition of sale between Mr Sinclair-Parry and the Youth Hostel Association.
