BUSY Bees nursery in Melrose welcomed in spring with a walk among the daffodils to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Daffodil Walk is a two mile point-to-point stroll along the Golden Mile – a mile long stretch of flowering daffodils situated on the outskirts of Melrose.

The walk took around an hour for the 200 people who joined in on Sunday (March 29th) – with youngsters from the nursery, their parents and nursery staff following in the footsteps of The Jedburgh Pipe Band, who led the walk.

Nursery manager Christine Laverty said the atmosphere on the walk was great and the sun shone for them. She said: “The walk was great and everyone really enjoyed themselves.

“The sun shone and everyone had a lovely afternoon stroll along the daffodils to raise money for such a good cause.

“Our nursery premises on Huntlyburn Road is always part of the route of the Daffodil Walk – everyone meets here, and we had refreshment stands for those who finished the walk.

“When I became manager, I wanted to carry on the tradition of being involved. We’re hopeful we’ve raised over £1,000 – we couldn’t have done it without everyone who turned up.” March 29th also marked the re-launch of the Melrose nursery, which has recently undergone a re-brand.

Christine continued: “The youngsters really enjoyed the activities - the bouncy castle and the face painting proved particularly popular! It was great to celebrate their achievements at completing the walk and we were also thrilled to welcome so many families and show them around our wonderful nursery.”
