POLICE in the Borders are reminding motorists of the need to think before taking the wheel the morning after consuming alcohol.

Around 6.45am on Monday 6th July, a Range Rover was stopped by officers in the Melrose area. The 47-year-old driver allegedly failed the roadside breath test, and was charged with being just over the legal alcohol limit.

He was subsequently reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Local Community Inspector Tony Hodges said: “This case highlights the need for motorists to think very carefully about transport arrangements the morning after alcohol consumption.

"With the recent legislation changes, the potential for people to still be over the legal limit is a consideration everyone should bear in mind.

“The loss of your driving licence here in the Borders will undoubtedly have a significant effect of most peoples livelihoods, and is just not a risk worth taking.”
