A PEEBLES designer is yet again creating the Christmas spirit for supermarket shoppers with her animal designs.

And the re-commission from Sainsbury's will cap off a memorable year for Cherith Harrison.

The former Peebles High pupil, who is a graduate from the Edinburgh College of Art, was asked by the supermarket giant last year to create festive designs for their shortbread tins.

Her stag and Highland cow creations were so popular with festive shoppers, Sainsbury's have asked for more.

Cherith explained: "Working with Sainsbury's last year on such a nice job was fun and exciting, so I was delighted when they asked me to design their Christmas tins again for this year.

"They pretty much gave me free reign to do what I wanted last year and this year was no different.

"The brief was really simple too, they wanted a stag design similar to last year's but to include a wintery landscape background as opposed to the patterned background on last year's tins.

"For the second tin they wanted a robin on a patterned background. I showed them a few options but I'm pleased they went with the holly-berries-come-polka-dot-pattern design - as that was my preferred one!"

Five years ago Cherith launched her own giftware business, producing and selling a range of mugs, tea towels, tote bags and cards following a successful and award-winning spell with an Edinburgh design agency.

The talented artist secured deals with over 120 stockists for her expanding range, which included the likes of Waterstones and Visit Scotland.

And the success has continued into this year.

She added: "This year has been a busy one, kicking off with a trade show in New York where I picked up 10 new stockists in Oregon, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Michigan and Massachusetts.

"Since February this year TJX have been selling a variety of my stationery items in their seven retail chains throughout US, Canada and Australia."

Closer to home Cherith's eye-catching designs are to be found in more and more stores.

From November her dragonfly and sparrow ranges will be on the shelves of all 25 Dobbies stores.

And during 2017 she has also designed bespoke ranges for organisations such as the Woodland Trust and the Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre.

Cherith has also been shortlisted for this year's WeDo Scotland Awards in the Rising Star category.
