A 5-YEAR-OLD boy has sustained serious injuries after being struck by a car in Peebles.

The collision happened at around 7.45pm on Sunday, April 8 on the A72 Innerleithen Road near to the Peebles Hydro Hotel.

A Vauxhall Insignia car travelling east along Innerleithen Road was involved in a collision with a pedestrian near to the west entrance to the Peebles Hydro.

The boy was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh by the Scottish Ambulance Service with serious injuries.

Road Policing Officers attended and the road was closed for approximately three hours whilst investigations were conducted at the scene.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone with information to help with ongoing inquiries to come forward.

Sergeant Neil Inglis from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit based at Galashiels said: “As a result of this collision the young boy sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital receiving treatment.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.

“Similarly anyone with information that can assist with our ongoing inquiries is asked to get in touch.”
