WORK is about to start on creating the world's 'Greatest Chocolate Shop' in Peebles.

Over the past year Cocoa Black has been working with a top international designer on a new layout for its chocolate boutique in the town.

And work on creating 'The Greatest Chocolate Shop' is set to begin next week.

Once completed, the new Cocoa Black boutique is expected to significantly increase tourist numbers in Peebles and will help secure up to 20 local jobs.

World Chocolate Master Ruth Hinks, who first opened Cocoa Black in 2010, told us: "We are very excited about the potential this project offers for Cocoa Black, Peebles and Scotland.

"Over the past years we’ve had great support from the town – this is our way of saying thanks."

Ruth, who was named as UK Confectioner of the Year in 2011, has welcomed thousands of guests through the door since opening her chocolate shop, including including HRH Prince Edward and world champion cyclist Mark Cavendish.

Her pastry school has also helped hundreds of budding chefs create mouth-watering creations.

The new enlarged layout will offer customers a dedicated chocolate retail space, a state-of-the-art counter for the display of Cocoa Black patisserie, and a relaxed café ambience.

Cocoa Black will also be launching a new chocolate and patisserie range, new branding and a wider selection of take-away products.

The shop will be closed from Monday (April 23) for the next four-to-five weeks while the refit work is carried out.
