PRINCIPALS at festivals in the central Borders have pledged their support for missing Madeleine McCann.

The four-year girl was snatched from her holiday apartment almost three weeks ago.

And a worldwide appeal for her safe return came to the Borders last week as yellow ribbons were worn at the first rideouts of the summer.

In Galashiels Braw Lad Craig Wilson and Braw Lass Amy Quinn both arrived at Friday"s Spurs Night ride with yellow ribbons tied to their horses" bridles.

Selkirk Standard Bearer Alasdair Craig also rode into town with the message of hope hanging from his stead.

And in Hawick, an appeal to Cornet Graham Robertson and his cavalcade to remember Madeleine was answered with many sporting yellow ribbons during Saturday"s Philhope Bridge rideout.

David Houston, chairman of the Braw Lads" Gathering, told the Border Telegraph: 'Everyone involved with the Braw Lads felt that they wanted to support the appeal for Madeleine.

'Both the Braw Lad and Braw Lass wore yellow ribbons on their horses for Spurs Night and I expect many more will join them for the other rideouts.'

Madeleine McCann disappeared from the Portugese holiday resort of Praia Da Luz on the evening of May 3.

Police investigations have failed to trace the four-year-old.

And her parents", Gerry and Kate, are hoping a massive publicity campaign will lead to someone recognizing Madeleine - and her safe return.

Politicians, pop stars and footballers have all taken to wearing ribbons of hope.

Braw Lad Craig Wilson feels it is appropriate that he and Braw Lass Amy Quinn support the campaign. The 23-year-old told us: 'Amy and I asked if it would be okay to wear yellow ribbons - nobody objected. Everybody is feeling for the little girl"s family.

'We aim to continue wearing the yellow ribbons at all the rideouts and I hope others do too until Madeleine is returned safely.'

And the 20-year-old Braw Lass added: 'Almost all of the horses at Spurs Night had yellow ribbons. It"s nice to see so many people care.'
