A JOBS fair is being held in Hawick by the Borders largest housing association this week.

As the region is ravaged by recession, Scottish Borders Housing Association is hosting an Open Day in its new office in the town's West Port, (near Drumlanrig Square) on Thursday, June 11.

The event has been organised to highlight the continuing opportunities open to local people to take up Housing as a career, and the wide range of job-types available within the sector.

In addition, SBHA will showcase the approach it is taking to staff recruitment and development, its investment in training, and its active recruitment of local people under the Modern Apprenticeship scheme, at a time when many other employers are struggling to even retain current employment levels.

The Open Day will involve a series of information and awareness sessions for around 25 Hawick High School business management students, and a visit from Danny Logue who is Operations Director of Skills Development Scotland. Danny will highlight the work which the recently-formed national learning and development agency is currently undertaking to enable people in the Borders to gain new work skills.

A programme for the Open Day is attached. All Press are most welcome to attend, and further details of SBHA"s training and employment initiatives will be provided on the day.
