THE first case of Swine Flu in the Borders has been confirmed by the local Health Board.
One person has tested positive for the H1N1 virus and is currently being treated in line with national guidance. It is believed the infection is travel related.
NHS Borders Public Health Team has identified any people who may need further assessment.
H1N1 Flu is an infection caused by the influenza virus and is worse than a heavy cold.
Symptoms include headache, high fever and shivers, a cough, sore throat, and/or aching muscles.
It is very important that people who think they are unwell with flu do not go to their GP surgery, A&E or any of the hospitals. This will only increase the risk of spreading the disease to patients who are already poorly and are more likely to suffer more severe symptoms.
Anyone concerned they might be ill with H1N1 should stay at home and call NHS24 on 0845 4 24 24 24 or their GP.
It is also more important than ever to prevent the spread of germs. The public can protect themselves and others by:
Always carrying tissues.
Using clean tissues to cover their mouth and nose when they cough and sneeze.
Bin the tissues after one use.

what worries me the most is taking my kids to the doctors or at a pharmacy because people mistake the swine flu as a cold byt then they have passed it on. there was 2 cases or swine flu in a & e at victoria hospital and everyone was walking about in masks
