THE contract for phase two of the refurbishment works to Nenthorn Bridge on the A6089 Kelso to Gordon road has been awarded to Rodger (Builders) of Earlston.

The initial works will involve the erection of scaffolding and the temporary diversion of the water main, which runs through the bridge, to allow the bridge works to proceed without disruption to the local water supply.

This is expected to take three weeks to complete with little disruption to traffic.

The main works are scheduled to start on Monday, August 10, at which time the bridge will be closed to traffic for 10-12 weeks.

Letters are going out to local councillors, residents and businesses to ensure they are aware of the works in advance and diversion routes around the closure will be clearly signed and advertised in the local press nearer the time.

The co-operation of the local community and general public during the works would be greatly appreciated as these are essential for the continued use of the bridge.
