A BLONDE bombshell from the Borders has beaten off competition from hundreds of women across the country to reach the final of the biggest modelling competition in Scotland.

Sexy student Veronica Barry, 21, from Kelso, is one of 20 glamour girls to qualify for the final of Ubergirl Scotland 2009.

She was chosen from more than 2,500 entries in the search to find the next face of the online magazine.

And, after surviving the public vote, the psychology student, who is in her fourth year at Robert Gordon's University in Aberdeen, is now vying to catch the eye of celebrity judge Calum Best to win the competition and the prize, which includes an exotic holiday, £10,000 in cash and a modelling contract.

Speaking to the Border Telegraph this week, Veronica said: "It would be a dream come true to win this competition and it would change my life.

"I am currently a student of psychology at RGU, about to enter my fourth year in September."

But she added: "When I entered the competition I never thought I would ever make the final!"

The former Kelso High School pupil revealed she still returns to the Borders for holidays as her dad stays in the town's Fairway Court and her mum works in the local library.

"Having grown up in the Borders I am just a normal girl who enjoys dancing and socialising with friends."

But she added: "I am so chuffed I made it to the final. I want to win for all the girls who are under 5ft 7in (I am 5ft 4in myself) to show them it is possible for shorter girls to be successful in modelling!"

The 20 finalists will take part in the Grand Final in the Corinthian Glasgow on September 4. The finalists will be judged on the night by a panel of celebrity judges headed by Calum Best.
