AN application to extend Tweedbank Primary School was this week submitted to Scottish Borders Council.
The school, which was built in the 1980s and has now surpassed its 179 capacity, have applied to add two extra classrooms and an office space to the original building.
It is hoped the application will get the go-ahead by planning chiefs so the building can cope with the further population growth forecast for the future.
Education spokeswoman Catriona Bhatia said: "At the moment the school has very small classrooms - when it was built in the 1980s it wasn"t future-proofed.
"The school roll has been rising for some time and there will be further population growth with the arrival of the railway."
