St. Boswells bangers are the best

A BUTCHER from St. Boswells is celebrating after his sausages made it to the final of a national competition.

Kelly and Craig Douglas are no strangers to awards, after being named Scottish pork sausage champions in May of this year.

That title led them to be invited to the Champion of Champion Sausage Awards in London last weekend, where they made it through to the finals.

They were the only Scottish company to receive such an invite.

Kelly said: "We've only had the shop three years, so to win the award in May was fantastic.

"To then get invited to compete in London was a real honour, and we were over the moon to make it to the finals."

To celebrate their success and the fact it's National Sausage Week, Douglas the Butchers are offering customers a chance to win a pound of their award winning wares.

All customers have to do is guess the flavour of some sausages on offer in the shop this week, and they could be going home with a pound of pork sausages.

Everyone who gets the right answer will also be entered into a draw to win a bag containing all the ingredients for the perfect Sunday roast, including a bottle of wine.

When I was A boy I worked as an apprentice Butcher in the Borders until I was 18 years old.One of the Types of Sausages we made was "Tomato" Sausages, Which consisted of simply mixing tinned tomatoes into the sausage meat to taste, they sold extremely well.During the war I was A Radio Officer in the MN and in all my travels never came across any even to this day.
