BORDERERS are being urged to contact SNP MSP Christine Grahame with suggestions of historical Scottish figures who have made a significant contribution to Scotland whose names could be given to committee rooms at The Scottish Parliament.

Ms Grahame's colleague Kenny Gibson suggested that Parliament should recognise Scotland's contribution to medicine, science, literature, philosophy and history, which will also give the Committee Rooms a Scottish identity.

"MSPs have now been asked to suggest suitable historical figures by the end of the year and I thought it would be appropriate to open it up and ask Borderers to come up with some suggestions," said Ms Grahame.

"Borderers in history have made a huge contribution to shaping the future of our nation whether they be scientists, thinkers, economists, medics, campaigners, or Scottish patriots and I think this is a great opportunity to recognise these contributions.

Currently MSPs work in Committee Room 1 or 2 but they might find it more inspiring to work in the likes of the Sir Walter Scott Room, the Mary Somerville Room or the Sir David Brewster Room.

Ms Grahame added: "I'd like people to get in touch with my office in the next few weeks with suggestions and I will make sure they are submitted for consideration at the end of the year."
