UP to 135 jobs will be created if plans to extend the Tweed Horizons Business Park near St Boswells are given the go-ahead.
Scottish Enterprise, who own the conference centre and business units, have submitted a bid to build on a neighbouring greenfield site.
Tweed Horizons opened in 1996 after major conversion work to the former monastery. And it is now home to more than a dozen businesses.
A spokesperson from Scottish Enterprise said: "The Planning Application we have submitted in principle for Tweed Horizons is part of an approach to increase the supply of high quality business space land to encourage company growth and inward investment."
Tweed Horizons already hosts some of the most technologically advanced companies in Scotland.
And the diversity of employment already on offer is welcomed by local officials.
Vicky Davidson, business spokeswoman for Scottish Borders Council, said: "This is fantastic news. We need more business space in the Scottish Borders and Tweed Horizons is an ideal location.
"The range of companies already based there is excellent and any extension can only be a good thing."
