Galashiels MoonWalk doubles fundraising target
BIG-HEARTED fundraisers from across the Borders had a grand night in Galashiels last week.
A total of 13 store workers from Asda - 10 girls and three boys - took part in a Mini MoonWalk to raise money for the Tickled Pink breast cancer charity on Wednesday night.
They braved the cold and rain to walk ten miles from Galashiels to Melrose and back, with a few detours along the way.
The supermarket staff, who dressed in pink to mark the occasion, completed the walk in around three hours, which included a ten minute stop at the half way point, having set off at 10pm.
And together they revealed they have raised more than £1000 for the charity - double their fundraising target.
Organiser Amy Bryson told the Border Telegraph: "It was absolutely fantastic."
And she added: "We would like to thank everyone who has supported us."
The event was based on the Edinburgh MoonWalk where participants wear brightly-decorated bras to take part in a late-night charity marathon.
And staff at Asda in Galashiels have revealed they are already considering holding another similar event next year.
"So far we have raised £1000 and there is still more coming in," Amy said. "We even had some customers come in to the store who said they had read about the MoonWalk in the Border Telegraph and wanted to sponsor us."
And she added: "I think we might organise another walk in the spring or summer time - when it's warmer."
