Teenager admits attack in Selkirk park
A 19-YEAR-OLD man has admitted attacking another man after chasing him through a park in Selkirk.
Unemployed James Burchill, of Bannerfield Drive, Selkirk, assaulted a 16-year-old male in the town's Victoria Park on July 29 around 9.45pm.
He punched him on the head, causing him to stumble backwards, before pursuing him round the car park at the leisure centre, seizing hold of him, dragging him along the ground and then repeatedly kicking him on the head and body.
On Thursday, the Justice of the Peace Court in Selkirk heard the attack was only stopped when someone else in the crowd intervened.
Burchill's solicitor Heather Stewart claimed her client attacked the teenager after it was alleged he had stubbed out a cigarette on his 12-year-old sister's face.
Justice of the Peace Andrew Bramhall fined Burchill £120. Passing sentence, he said: "This behaviour is unacceptable."
