AN animal rehoming centre in the Borders has condemned a dog owner who abandoned their pet outside a local supermarket on Christmas day.

This proud pooch was found tied to a lamp post in freezing conditions next to the recycling bins at Asda in Currie Road, Galashiels, last Sunday, December 25.

It was taken in to be cared for by Arthurshiel Rehoming Centre near St Boswells.

And now the animal shelter has appealed to local pet lovers to help find the chocolate coloured cocker spaniel a new home.

A fox, which appears to have been handreared, was also found dumped locally over the festive season.

If you can help re home an animal from Arthurshiel Animal Rescue Centre please ring 07581878393. Alternatively, log on to the centre's website - http://arthurshielrescuecentre.co.uk
