VANDALS have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage after targeting 16 cars in one street in Galashiels.

Police have appealed for information following reports of repeated vandalism in the town's Woodside Place.

The vehicles were targeted on various occasions between October and January.

A police spokesman said: "The owners of the vehicles, some of which are repeat victims, are becoming increasing concerned that their vehicles are being targeted for unknown reasons."

Police have vowed to step up patrols in the area in an effort to catch those responsible.

A spokesperson for the force said: "The level of damage caused to these vehicles vary, but the crimes committed collectively over the time period accumulate to substantial financial loss to the owners.

"We will be conducting more high visibility patrols in this area in an attempt to bring those responsible to justice. However, in the interim, we would like to hear from anyone who have witnessed any of these incidents taking place."

"I would appeal to anyone who has information which could assist police with their enquiries or which could lead to the identification of those responsible, to contact Galashiels police station as soon as possible. Alternatively, if members of the public would prefer to pass information via Crimestoppers, they can do so by contacting them on 0800 555 111."
