THE 11th Innerleithen Pipe Band Championships are to be held this year on Saturday 16th June 2012 at their usual venue in Victoria Park Innerleithen and not as previously published on the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) web site.

Bruce Hamilton, President of The St Ronan's Piping Society, who organises this very popular event, explained that the error had been made by someone within RSPBA, this has now been corrected and an apology received from the RSPBA Chairman.

President Bruce went onto say: "I hope that this mistake will not deter bands from attending this year's championships and I hope that people pass the word around and that we continue to get a good turn out on the day."

Due to a reduction in the number of sponsors coming forward over the past few years the organisers decided at their AGM in January to reduce the prize money for this year's event. Having said that even in this economical down turn they still feel that they have some of the top prize money in all grades with £200 for first place, £150 for runners-up, £100 for third and £50 for fourth with Trophies for all places plus Best Drum Corps and Best Bass Section and a host other prizes.

In addition to this a New Grade 4 March, Strathspey and Reel contest offers a £200 first prize.

The event itself costs the society over £5000 to run but brings hundreds of people into the town for the day.

Entry forms for this year's event will be available online soon on the RSPBA, RSPBA Lothian and Borders Branch and St Ronan's Piping Society websites. Late entries will be taken up to 1100hrs on the day of the event. Even if you are not competing, come along and have a great day out in the small town of Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders entry is £3 per adult, Kids under 16 Free, official programme £2 parking £1.
