Man dies following road smash near Galashiels
A 24-YEAR-OLD man has died following a road smash in the Borders.
The man, named locally as Graham Milroy, from Galashiels, was driving a Citroen Saxo when it was involved in a head-on collision with a Skoda Octavia on the A7, half a mile north of the town, on Wednesday around 5.20pm.
He was rushed to Borders General Hospital after being cut free from the wreckage of his vehicle, but later died from his injuries with his family by his side.
The driver of the other car escaped with minor injuries.
Paying tribute to him on his Facebook page, Graham's sister Gemma Milroy said: "Graham, I seriously couldn't have asked for a better brother or friend. All you did was give and refuse to take anything in return. You deserve the very best and I hope that wherever you are, you are happy. We miss you so much. It's never going to be the same without you. Love you. Take care. Xxxxxx"
Emergency services rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised. And the A7 was closed for more than five hours to allow a crash investigation to be carried out.
Police have appealed for information. A spokesperson said: "Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and appeal for any witnesses to contact us immediately, including the three occupants of a works vehicle, possibly a flatbed van, who stopped and rendered assistance prior to arrival of the emergency services."
Anyone with information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
