CHILLING new statistics have revealed that Galashiels has one of the highest concentrations of registered sex offenders in Scotland.
The revelation was made a year after the launch of a new police disclosure scheme, Keeping Children Safe, which allows the public to apply for information about an individual who has access to a child.
It revealed a total of 75 registered sex offenders lived in the TD postcode area - including 23 in Galashiels, which was said to have a population of around 15,500.
Other registered sex offenders were found in Hawick (20), Melrose (7), Selkirk (6), Jedburgh (6), Kelso (4), Duns (4), Coldstream (2), Eyemouth (2), and Gordon (1).
The figures were compiled in November 2011.
