Sick thieves target children's cemetery in Melrose
SICK thieves stole six solar powered lights from the graveside of three baby siblings who died two years ago.
Police have appealed for information following the theft at Wairds Cemetery near Melrose.
The graves were targeted sometime between Sunday, June 3, and Sunday, June 10.
The children's grieving parents revealed they installed solar powered lights at graveside as they did not like the thought of their babies being left alone in the dark.
A police spokesperson said: "This is a sickening incident which has caused significant stress to the babies parents and family."
And they added: "We are particularly keen to trace whoever is responsible for this theft and appeal to anyone with any information in relation to this incident to contact police."
Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
