STUNNING shop assistant Yaz Araç was all smiles this week after being crowned the first winner of a new beauty competition in the Borders.

The 19-year-old, who works at B&Q in Galashiels, was presented with a bouquet of flowers by celebrity guest James Tindale, from reality TV show Geordie Shore, following the announcement at the final of The Look event at Move on Friday night.

She has won a 12 month modelling contract and will become the face of the competition's main sponsors, 'The Beauty Experience', the beauty salon based in the town's Bank Street, after being judged winner of the face-based talent contest.

The teenager, originally from Peebles but now living in Earlston, was one of six finalists aged between 18 and 30 chosen to take part in the final following an online vote.

Yaz said she was thrilled to take the title but said every one of the finalists deserved to be crowned winners.

Organiser Alan Walker, of Galashiels-based The Cocktail Experience, said: "Hopefully this will be the first of many talent competitions to put Galashiels and the Borders on the map and give the area something to be proud about."
