DISRUPTION is expected to continue in Galashiels this week as work on the town's new inner relief road nears completion.

Scottish Borders Council has confirmed that the A7 will be closed in the town overnight between Wednesday and Thursday, July 4 and 5.

It is to allow for the resurfacing works and the creation of a new roundabout at the top of Bridge Place, at the junction with High Buckholmside and Ladhope Vale.

Traffic will be diverted along the High Road and down Station Brae into the town centre - with traffic lights at the High Road/Melrose Road junction - and no parking along the High Road.

A council spokesperson said: "Scottish Borders Council is completing the final stages of the improvements on Ladhope Vale and Bridge Place. The last major operation is the formation of the new roundabout at the top of Bridge Place, at the junction with High Buckholmside and Ladhope Vale."

But they added: "To allow the surfacing works to be undertaken in a safe and timely manor, a road closure will be in place starting at 6pm on Wednesday, July 4, running though to 6am on Thursday, July 5.

"SBC apologises in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this may cause."

Anyone with queries or concerns prior to the closures should contact Scottish Borders Council programme manager Ewan Doyle on 01835 824000.
