Melrose targeted in second day of major police operation

POLICE have announced they have made more arrests in the Scottish Borders following another series of raids as part of an ongoing drugs operation.
Operation Goal, an intelligence-led, multi agency initiative, which has now entered day two, continues to target local drug dealers who blight communities and profit from the misery of other members of society.
Yesterday morning, officers targeted 11 addresses in Galashiels, Selkirk, Kelso and Hawick and arrested nine men and two women for alleged drug offences.
These towns, along with Melrose, were visited again today as police continued their activity as part of Operation Goal.
A further 12 people have today been arrested thanks to evidence from the local communities after months of intelligence gathering.
Nine men aged 28, 53, 32, 21, 25, 28, 41, 39, and 24 and three women are aged, 22, 37 and 39 are all scheduled to appear in court tomorrow having been charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Detective Chief Inspector Amanda McGrath said: "I am delighted by the support received from local communities as well as the effort and dedication which was carried out by officers yesterday.
"Following this up with further activity today will send out a clear message to others involved in the supply of illegal drugs, that the police continue a zero tolerance approach to drug dealing in the Scottish Borders".
"I would also like to re-affirm that the success of this operation is directly attributed to the excellent collaborative working between Lothian and Borders Police, Scottish Borders Council and NHS Borders in tackling drug related crime at a local level.
"It is anticipated that such an approach will ensure ongoing and appropriate support is afforded to those affected by substance misuse in our area".
Cocaine with a potential street value of £1000 was also seized during today's operation.
