Teenager charged in connection with fatal smash
AN 18-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal crash which claimed the life of a teenager in the Borders on New Year's Day.
Scott Johnston, also aged 18, from Earlston, was the front seat passenger in the Mitsubishi when it was involved in a collision on the A697 near Lauder on Sunday, January 1, around 7.10pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said a report detailing the circumstances has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Police have charged a man aged 18, from Lauder, with causing death by careless driving."
