Council hit with £250,000 fine for dumped bank files

DUMPING bank records of former employees in a supermarket car park recycling bin has cost Scottish Borders Council £250,000.
More than 600 pension records were found sticking out of recycle bank last year by an eagle-eyed shopper.
Following an enquiry by the Information Commissioner, the local authority was this week slapped with quarter-of-a-million pounds civil penalty.
Council Chief Executive Tracey Logan said: "It is very disappointing to receive such a high monetary penalty from the ICO especially in the current economic climate."

It's very disappointing that your authority chose to show such a high disregard for presonal information, I have no sympathy that your authority has had to be punished.
It is a shame that the actions of your authority are now leading to the Borders public having to miss out on £250,000 worth of roads improvments, or school improvments etc because you failed to adhere to the law.

Report commentIt is wrong that the authority has been fined. That just means rate payers are fined. The individuals responsible should be fined, and sacked.
