AN investigation has been launched following the death of a teenager in the Borders.

The 16-year-old boy, named locally as Billy Robson from Kelso, was taken to Borders General Hospital in Melrose on Tuesday, October 23, around 7am after falling ill at an address in Newtown St Boswells.

His death is being treated as "unexplained".

The Border Telegraph understands a number of other youths were later taken to hospital in connection with the same incident.

A police spokesman said: "Lothian and Borders Police are investigating following the death of a 16-year-old male within the Border General Hospital on Tuesday 23rd October.

"Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding his death, which is currently being treated as unexplained."
